Scared the bejeezes out of mommy and daddy

Just an update for those who don't know what's been going on for the last week with us. We had the pleasure of spending some time at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital here in St. Louis. Needless-to-say I've been preoccupied. So here it goes...

Last week Jack went to the Dr. for his wellness check up and a few shots. As usual he started to cough on Friday and it just got worse as the night went on. All of us woke up on Saturday feeling cruddy. Jack was not feeling well. He wanted to be held all the time and seemed to be coughing and weezing more than usual. After several breathing treatments, we made a couple phone calls to the Dr. and waited to see if it would pass. Jack seemed to be a little better in the evening so we all went to bed. About 10:30 I woke up to Darrell calling the Dr., Jack was coughing and struggling to get breathes. So off to the ER we went. They signed us in at 12:00am on Sunday morning. The ER Dr. put Jack on an IV, gave him steroids, and an hour long mega-breathing treatment(3x what is normal). Before the hour was up the Dr. informed us that in Jack's best interest they would be sending him, by ambulance, to Cardnial Glennon. I don't think I've felt my heart beat so hard! So the transport team arrived and took Jack into the ambulance. We had to follow behind because there wasn't room in the rig for another person. Luckly Jack made friends with Dave, the respitory therapist, who was from Cardinal Glennon and the ride wasn't too bad for him.

We arrived at C.G. about 2:45 and after the third breathing treatment, paper work, and a no sleep we were moved onto the 2nd floor. They hooked Jack back up to an IV, oxygen, and heart monitor. They did an assessment and he finally was able to sleep for a little bit. It was about 7:00am on Sunday Morning when Darrell and I were able to try to sleep. I think I slept for about 45 minutes, then the Dr's came in. At first they thought it might have been an allergic reaction to the shots. They took more blood, another chest x-ray, and called an allergy consult.

Many breathing treatments, steroids, and Dr.'s later, they determined it wasn't the shots but what has turned out to be a severe asthma attack. For whatever reason the last round of shots triggered something and cause the attack. So now Jack is classified as asthmatic.

So we spent Sunday and Monday in the hospital waiting for the Jack to be strong enough to not need the mega-breathing treatments and keep his heart rate up. By Monday night I saw glimpses of my sweet baby boy. He giggled and even flirted with the nurses. So after being off oxygen on Monday night and everything evening out, on Tuesday morning the told us we could go home! Jack is so much better and is down to breathing treatments every 4 hours for the next 2 days and then as needed. I made Jack promise never to do that again and we have an agreement now, never scare the bejeezes out of mommy and daddy again!!!
